Trip is Susan Lipper’s fictional road trip through America – destination, starting point – even date unknown. Lipper’s images and the accompanying texts by writer Frederick Barthelme play against each other throughout the book juxtaposing ideas and sensations. Sophisticated, funny and urbane, trip re-appropriates the documentary tradition to create a new American narrative that casts us adrift in a world of vernacular objects – signs and symbols that read at so many levels.
